On Tuesday, January 6th, five members of the Maryville Lions Club participated in an East TN District 12N Food Packing event. With 18 clubs and 81 Lions participating, over 40,000 meals of pasta, soy additive, and sauce were packaged and boxed for distribution to food pantries throughout East TN. This was all accomplished within a matter of less than 5 hours!
Thanks to local donations and a Community Impact Grant from Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), the District was able to partner with Operation Inasmuch to put on this project. Operation Inasmuch provided the product, equipment (including gloves and hairnets), as well as training.
The process involved scooping the pasta and soy additive into plastic bags, adding the sauce packet, weighing and measuring the bags to a specified weight, sealing the bags, and packing 32 of the bags into boxes. Each packet is supposed to feed 4-5 people. The total box count ended up around 200.

Each participating club was allowed to take back 10 or more boxes to their communities for distribution as they deemed appropriate. The clubs were asked to place a label on the boxes stating that they were donated by the East TN Lions District 12N and to add their individual club names as well.
Here is a great video recap of the event!
The Maryville Lions Club is always looking for good ways to partner with others to make a greater impact in their community. The club has 20 boxes available to donate, and they plan to give them to the Blount County agencies of Meals on Wheels and The Community Food Connection. The club may also decide to give some boxes to other food pantries as identified by club members.
