Maryville Lions Help Keep Tour de Blount Rolling

Last Saturday, members of the Maryville Lions Club had the privilege of volunteering in support of the riders participating in Tour de Blount, one of our area’s long-running and well-loved cycling events.
Tour de Blount is hosted by the Foothill Striders, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles, outdoor recreation, community service, and enjoyment of the beautiful East Tennessee outdoors. The ride brings cyclists together to experience the scenic roads, rolling terrain, and mountain views that make Blount County such a special place to call home.
And yes, for those of us not riding 25, 50, or 75 miles, volunteering from the roadside suddenly felt like a very reasonable fitness plan.
But joking aside, this event is about much more than bicycles. Tour de Blount helps support scholarships for local high school students and promotes health and wellness across Blount County. That makes it a natural fit for the Maryville Lions Club, because our mission is also rooted in helping people live healthier, stronger, and more connected lives.
For Lions, service takes many forms. Sometimes it means helping protect sight through vision screenings, eyeglass assistance, and support for neighbors facing vision challenges. Sometimes it means rolling up our sleeves at community events, supporting youth programs, or partnering with other organizations that are doing good work right here in Blount County.
This weekend, it meant cheering on riders, helping where needed, and playing a small part in a great local tradition.
We are grateful to the Foothill Striders for organizing Tour de Blount and for their continued commitment to health, recreation, scholarships, and community service. We were honored to support the riders and help make the day a success.
The Maryville Lions Club exists to serve Blount County and East Tennessee, and we are always looking for people who want to make a difference close to home. Helping others strengthens the whole community — and, as every Lion will tell you, it does a lot of good for the helper too.
