On December 2nd, Maryville Lions Club President Paulette Bailey presented Lion Karen Fontaine with her 10-year service chevron recognizing her service to the Maryville Lions and the Blount County community. The chevron is to be worn hanging beneath an individual's Lion's pin which they receive when they join a club.

Lion Karen has served as Treasurer of the club for several years as well as Tail Twister. She has also received awards for Lion of the Year and a Melvin Jones Fellowship award. Lion Karen and her husband, Dean are best known for organizing the club's Oldies to the Oldies (OTTO) car cruise-in held annually in the Spring and Fall. Vintage cars parade to several Assisted Living Centers throughout Blount County and spend about 45 minutes at each facility allowing time for the residents to come out and reminisce about the "good ole" days. At the end of the day they all meet at Hops 50s diner for a meal and prizes.

Lions International recognizes Lions for their service in increments of five years beginning with 10 years of service encouraging them to continue making a difference in their communities and worldwide. Each five year period a new chevron is sent to the individual adding a flag to the bottom of the chevron up through 95 years of service. The East Tennessee District 12N Lions are proud to have several Lions with over 50 years of service in their ranks.
