On Tuesday, September 16th, District Governor (DG) Nathanael Hughes visited the Maryville Lions Club and shared with us important dates of upcoming events in the District and the three special weeks of service from Lions International.

DG Nate also shared what he would like to accomplish this year – Communication, Collaboration and Service.  He said if we can accomplish these, there will be an increase in membership.

As a thank you for visiting the club, President Paulette Bailey presented DG Nate with a NOAA Radio.  The District is working on a Disaster preparedness plan and the NOAA radio has been recommended as a must have tool from several of the County TEMA offices.  This little device is amazing.  Here is a run down of what it contains:

  • A handcrank (no power req’d.) or it can run on solar panel or batteries

  • A flashlight

  • Radio – NOAA Weather, AM/FM and short-wave

  • An alarm (quite loud)

  • A USB port to charge your phone

The device only cost about $30 on Amazon and is highly recommended as a must have for all of us because you never know when a disaster might strike and communication is of utmost importance.
